Doctor Strange Movie: A Brief Overview & Review

We all knew the mystical awesomeness created by Steve Ditkowould be seen in Doctor Strange Movie, but boy did “Doctor Strange Movie” exceed expectations! Steve Ditko himself would be proud.

“The Avengers protect the Earth from physical dangers. We safeguard it against more mystical threats.”

Faithful to the word, Doctor Strange will take you on a wild, mystical ride. Credits to the VFX team who undoubtedly created a masterpiece. The movie more than deserves an Academy Award nomination.

Keeping aside the VFX, the movie does brilliantly in other departments too. Character portrayal was spot on. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton took on the challenge and did the task gracefully.

While Mordo played by Chiwetel Ejiofor added more drama to the storyline (Comic book readers, you know what I mean). Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius is a character where Marvel succeeded in impressing the audience, but as expected, there wasn’t enough of him.

I was excited to see Scott Adkins (Boyka – Undisputed 3: Redemption) in the movie only to be massively disappointed by how short his screen time was.

Moreover, he wasn’t given any significant role. Anyone who is familiar with Scott Adkins’ work can relate.

Apart from the main characters, Wong played by Benedict Wong was a surprise hit as a character. Wong to Doctor Strange is what Luis (Michael Peña) was to Ant-Man. Wong stole the show every time he was on screen. The relationship between Wong and Strange is something that leaves us wanting more.

Music by Michael Giacchino was good. Nothing out of the ordinary but nothing shabby either.

And finally the director, Scott Derrickson who is well known for his thriller/horror movies gives us a surprise with a comedic approach to the film. Storytelling was spot on, without skipping the details unlike that of BvS: DoJ.

Props to the writers, Jon Spaihts, C. Robert Cargill and Derrickson himself for such a well-written script. It’s not easy to balance quality and well-timed humor with such dramatical exposition, but they did it perfectly with this one.

All the jokes were well timed. Although a couple of them here and there seemed a bit out of place and unnecessary. Nothing to be worried about, though.

The two downsides of the movie being antagonists’ character underdevelopment and a climatic battle leaving us wanting more ‘Oomph.’ It’s understandable that the writers wanted to go off the mainstream big action sequence in the climax, but a little more action wouldn’t have hurt.
